Re: Fusion regulation
This goes against my rooted cynicism, too much good news in one day makes me nervous.
Re: EM Drive
Magic expansion. I never got over how such an idea got past the smell test. The first BS claxon I remember going off was for ‘inflation’ in the late 70s/early 80s.

Interesting point.Funny thing, btw. There is no reason why Helion's power plants could not be stood "upright" rather than lying on their side. That opens an interesting design option because then they can use a LiPb waterfall like Zap is doing.

Re: Feeling lonely sometimes
SJ, You & a few others are keeping this board alive. Thanks to that I took a better look at Helion instead of the shallow glance & came to the realization that their approach was one of the best. Zap is another assuming scaling does not hit a brick wall (no guarantees in plasma). Again, thanks to al...

Re: Helion Energy to demonstrate net electricity production by 2024
Just for comparison, 4 years is a normal major overhaul period for fossil. Overhaul minimum is 8 weeks. Helion machines are small machines so they would be easier to cycle off even during peak seasons. I wonder if the machines would be just put in containers & sent back for refurbishment for major o...

Re: NT-Tao (Israeli fusion company)
I get the feeling that a lot of proposals are flying out of the woodwork looking for investment money, that it is more about the looking than the proposals.

Yes, could just be a Y-troll for cash. I never rule out outside $$ though. The fact he deleted your comment speaks to dishonesty. The more I consider your point the more it could make sense, there were a huge number of views of the Helion video. It is a shame that mud thrown at a popular topic is a ...

Re: Helion Energy to demonstrate net electricity production by 2024
Helion using a short pulse, avoiding ignition, using advanced (commercial) power electronics available only lately, has jumped ahead of their two FRC competitors (TAE, General Fusion) in terms of time to commercial prototype. It remains to be seen if Zap is able to succeed, but Helion is near term. ...

They do not address cusps, which all open field topologies must have. Claims are just claims. The NOVATRON fusion design is the only concept with this property of increasing magnetic field outwards everywhere in the confinement region.
