Re: We lost so many members :(

Thanks all for your input. It costs me very little to keep the board running, so I'm happy to continue doing so as long as anyone is finding it of interest. And who knows... maybe polywell research itself will roar back to life one day, and we'll be the site that kept the torch lit this whole time. :D

Re: We lost so many members :(

Hi all! Thanks for your interest, and thanks to @Giorgio for pinging me about it. When I founded the board, the intent was to be focused on Polywell fusion. I also expected that it would either pan out or prove to be unworkable within a few years of that time. That was... a long time ago. But since ...

Re: Apologies for the long down time

Just to follow up: DreamHost informed me this week that it would soon be disabling PHP 5.6, forcing an upgrade. Fortunately we managed to do this, and I think we're all up and running again on the latest version of phpBB.

If you spot any weirdness or misbehavior, please let me know.

Apologies for the long down time

It's been a long few months. In case anyone's curious: 1. Dreamhost (our hosting provider) provides "one-click installs" for things like phpBB, with automatic upgrades! 2. But they appear to think (incorrectly) that the latest version of phpBB is 3.0.13. (It's not.) 3. In January, automatically upgr...

Re: Lockheed Martin news

Anybody have access to Aviation Week, or another source for this story? Skunk Works Building Bigger Fusion Reactor Los Angeles. Lockheed Martin’s ambitious plans to develop a compact fusion reactor (CFR) to provide clean nuclear energy remains on track according to the company and are set to move to...

Re: EMC2 news

The address of the whole ENN Group is accessible at http://www.enn.cn/wps/portal/enn.en , but I have not been able to locate the symposium site from there. Maybe the third option will work out and the missing site will again be accessible on the first of October? Apparently so; it's accessible now....

Re: Princeton FRC work

I just read the paper. That's really interesting. But, as a noob to it, here's what I don't understand: they seem to have a design for a small (a few meters) reactor that will produce 1 to 10 MW of net power with relatively low nutrino radiation. And they're tinkering with how to use it to send thin...

Re: Dr. Park invites questions from the community

Here are Dr. Park's answers for questions 7-10. 7. Is there a reconciliation between this machines low Beta cusp confinement numbers and those claimed for WB6? WB6 was ~ 60 passes , while this machine was ~7 passes. Given that simple biconic mirror confinement was quoted as ~ 5-8 passes (in the old...

Re: Dr. Park invites questions from the community

Dr. Park has kindly sent me very thoughtful answers to questions 1-6, and intends to work on the remaining questions over the weekend. I know you will have follow-up questions, but let's try to be respectful of Dr. Park's time and glean as much as we can from just the answers provided for now. Here ...

Re: Dr. Park invites questions from the community

Well, I've sent the top-10 questions off to Dr. Park. Some of the questions are quite detailed, and possibly more than he bargained for. I think we should be grateful for whatever information he's able to provide.

I'll pass along his answers as soon as I get them!

Best,
- Joe

I like it. That makes sense to me.

Going once... I'll send this off to Dr. Park in the morning if there are no further suggestions.

Re: Dr. Park invites questions from the community

OK then, unless somebody strenuously (and quickly!) objects, I think I'm going to send on questions 1-8, 11, and 12. Question 13 is interesting but the answer is likely to be "probably not," and "as if we should have such a problem." 12, on the other hand, is more concrete and seems more likely to p...

Re: Dr. Park invites questions from the community

OK, thanks everyone for the brainstorming. I've fallen behind schedule now, and asked Dr. Park to give us a few more days to get our act together. So let's see if we can whittle this down to our top 10. Here I've gathered all the questions I found, combined ones that were essentially the same, and a...
