I thought tokamaks handled it by being made ever larger.I think a stellarator handles this with complex twisted magnetic fields. I don't know how Tokamaks handle this.

Re: More Helion Energy news....
Helion Energy gave a presentation at the 2014 CleanTech Open in San Franciso: As an alumni and 2013 National Energy Generation Category winner we were honored to attend and showcase Helion’s funding and technology progress. Helion didn't win any awards this year, though I suppose as a previous winne...

Re: Lawaranceville E-Newsletter
The November newsletter is available here . News is a bit sparse. There are two items. The first is about Physics of Plasmas publishing LPP's paper on “Runaway electrons as a source of impurity and reduced fusion yield in the dense plasma focus”. I linked to that story above, but as it was published...

Re: Christians Oppose Healing The Sick On Moral Grounds
Well I think if we can have a "Drug Loons" thread some counter information might be in order. What's stopping you from creating "MSimon's Drug Thread" (or whatever you wish to call it) and posting there every time you have some new information you wish to share, or a new argument you wish to make? ...

Re: Aviation Week on the Lockheed Skunkworks CFR
I just found this article on the website of the Max Planck Institute for Plasma Physics, linked to from the ITER website: Are mini fusion power plants possible? The short answer, according to them, is "no". In addition to specific arguments relating to the Lockheed Martin concept, here is their gene...

Re: 2014 Dark Horse Trifecta Year?
I hadn't seen this until just now: http://nextbigfuture.com/2014/10/updated-prospects-for-commercial.html Brian Wang gives his projections on the prospects for eight fusion concepts, six of which are being researched by private companies. He places them in the following order, apparently based on ti...

Re: LENR Is Real
Are you stating this from personal knowledge, or just going on what's publicly available? Because from the publicly available information, all we have is Dennis Bushnell making statements about how great the future will be if and when we have working LENR reactors, Joseph Zawodny planning to test th...

Russia developing hybrid fusion-fission reactor
RT reports that Russia's Kurchatov Research Center is developing a hybrid reactor: The approach has a number of potential benefits in terms of safety, non-proliferation and cost of generated energy, and Russia is developing such a hybrid reactor, according to Mikhail Kovalchuk, director of the Kurch...

Re: Lawaranceville E-Newsletter
If runaway electrons are responsible for vaporizing the anodes, I suppose pre-ionization should lengthen the anode lifetime a bit. (Note: I haven't read the paper yet.) Er, never mind about that. The runaway electrons are vaporizing the outside of the anode, near the insulator, not the inside of th...

Re: Lawaranceville E-Newsletter
The October newsletter is out, and several new articles are up on the LPP website: Tungsten anode goes into FF-1; aluminum cathode model is checked Due to the cathode’s complexity, THP wanted us to check the aluminum model before cutting the tungsten piece. Sure enough, a few errors were found, incl...

Re: I think Lockheed Screwed Up. We Need Data - Not Specula
Critique of Lockheed Martin's fusion PR campaign and critique of critiques thereof I think I've already said enough on the word "breakthrough" and lack of specificity, but here are some things LM could have done to allay the truest criticisms: 1) Link to the patent applications. Or at least give th...

Re: I think Lockheed Screwed Up. We Need Data - Not Specula
perhaps this is the breakthrough they're talking about Perhaps. I don't discount the possibility that Lockheed has made some kind of breakthrough at this stage, but you don't mention the word (assuming it was Lockheed who mentioned it) before you're ready to unveil the breakthrough publicly. Otherw...
