Navy research directions.

Here is an interesting article re- Office of Navel Research directions. A new, consolidated effort? Why so far into the future? http://www.nationaldefensemagazine.org/ARCHIVE/2007/SEPTEMBER/Pages/PresidentsPer2527.aspx edit: shucks, that's a year old .... I didn't pay attention to the year. Sorry ...

Simon- My remark was badly stated. The village currently has a small, old coal plant that provides ~50 jobs to the community. It was inferred that the village is solidly behind the new plant because it will double the jobs from power plants. The implication being that if the power plant provided few...

Coal plant cost estimates rise to $1.3 Billion

The cost of the proposed new 300 Megawatt coal fired power plant in Cassville, Wisconsin, has risen to $1.3 Billion. Initially proposed at $777 million, the plant costs have gone up to $433 million per 100 Megawatts. See details here: http://www.jsonline.com/story/index.aspx?id=563358 . This is a ba...

TallDave:
Consider the Diesel engine. As long as it gets fuel at the right time it will run. It needs fuel and timing, nothing else. It stops without fuel, and without timing, well I guess that would be like having fuel in the cylinders all the time. There'd be some serious knocking going on.

So far we've had over 750 views and 12-14 guesses. That's not really enough guesses to work with. If we had 700 guesses we could develop a Delphi best guess estimate of the real date of information release. We might need more data about the background of the individual guessers, though. Guesses from...

Na, its the same hit that I get when I follow my steps. I do use Firefox if that matters. But its not really the first link in the nav bar as it is the third line of links, and is "Fossil Fuel Combustion." Sorry. I should be more careful.

Go to a Google search box and type in "carbon dioxide emissions sources"
Select the first result in the list.
Select the first link in the navigation bar.
Read the bar chart.

Someone has the date of release of Information - Lets POOL !

But No one knows it. How can we have a pool to guess the date of release of information? The information being the announcement of a follow-on research effort of course.
I think we will hear on September 26, 2008, (Aero), that is $20 billion in foreign oil consumed from now, Sept. 6.

Roger - One thing you said, ... "If Dr. Nebel builds ..." I do have faith in Dr. Nebel's abilities. If Dr. Nebel builds what he wants to build, then I'm behind him 100%. In that case I know as a minimum, it will be WB-100 and I suspect he is aware of my arguments by now. He does read this forum afte...

I do not advocate a fossil fuel free society nor do I believe such is possible within the foreseeable future. But we shouldn't waste it and burning it in the refinery is waste, if we have BFRs available. I do believe that personal transportation (cars) can become fossil fuel free in short order, aga...

Roger, you may be right, it seems that more avenues of research would hurry things along and I am all for that. You see, I think the BFR is going to work. Oh sure, maybe there is a non-linearity that will twist on us and cut us off at the pass, but the physical world is rarely like that. And if ther...
