Re: Lockheed Martin news

Has anyone insight on how Lockheed Martin is doing? I noticed that they did not submit any abstract to the APS Division of Plasma Physics conferences in 2020 and 2021, but in the previous years they did present regularly with several contributions.

Re: Article on fusion patents of FIA members

According to the article Helion Energy has filed three patent applications and one of them has been granted and the other two are pending. According to the article there is no patent assigned to ZAP Energy, but there is a patent filed in 2017 by Shumlak, Nelson and McLean on behalf of the University...

Re: MIT claim they will build the SPARC

This is interesting news. The question of radiation hardness of these HTC-magnets is still open. It will determine the lifetime of the magnets and the service interval and play a role in the operational costs of the facility, so it is an important issue.

Re: Z-Pinch Renaissance

Zap Energy has published this on Twitter on the 1st of September: Zap Energy's new facility is fully operational - now producing high performance z-pinch plasmas and generating thermonuclear fusion! Oh and we got the keys to our second facility today - which doubles our footprint - the team there wi...

Re: General Fusion in the news

At this point Helion is the only one that will fit, but yes, fusion power plants are superior for safety and training reasons. Perhaps also for cost reasons. Dunno about that ($) yet. ZAP's could fit too... The advantage of Helion's reactor is that there is no noisy steam plant. It would be as quie...

Is there any news out yet on the JET DT-campaign? Does anyone know if the DT-experiments have been started during this summer or has there been more delays?

Re: What constitutes a Demonstration Power Plant?

Those reactors that run on DT-will get 80 % of their energy from the kinetic energy of the fusion neutrons. That energy has of course to be converted to heat, so in principle any DT-reactor could be constructed by retrofitting an existing coal power plant with the fusion core, which would save time...
