Re: More Helion Energy news....

Skipjack wrote; Helion are invited speakers and had their presentation accepted, but have not received a scheduling I had a look on the web page of the 63rd Annual Meeting of the APS Division of Plasma Physics, but still there is no contribution from Helion Energy there? Re: Focused Energy

That is great for them. Let's hope they can make it work. Lasers have come a long way since NIF was first built. So there is a good chance that they can do it. The efficiency and repetition rate of lasers in ICF is not the only major issue. A very hard problem is to develop an ICF target that is ch...

This is a nice and well written article on the history of ARC, CFS and SPARC in the New Yorker by Rivka Galchen: Can Nuclear Fusion Put the Brakes on Climate Change?

Re: "Former fusion scientist on why we won't have fusion power by 2040"

I made myself watch this a few days ago. Ego and pessimism aside, the schematic on the need for Q>20 for a Tokamak was interesting. That was from generation efficiency 50% (not unkind) and power conversion to plasma injected power 10% (no idea if that makes sense). So Q=20 just drives the machine w...

Re: Z-Pinch Renaissance

And both companies have been going through rapid development in recent years. ZAP especially has been making huge strides. From what I understand they were able to get FuZE up to 500 kA (which is much higher than the 300 kA that Uri originally expected and that FuZE was designed for) a huge jump fr...

Re: General Fusion in the news

GF's investors are timid. They will front only the money needed to demonstrate what they need and no more. Their next machine will be the commercial machine. I don't know about the timidity of the General Fusion investors, but there are physics and technological risks involved and those are the rea...

Re: Lockheed Martin news

Has anyone insight on how Lockheed Martin is doing? I noticed that they did not submit any abstract to the APS Division of Plasma Physics conferences in 2020 and 2021, but in the previous years they did present regularly with several contributions.
