Re: em drive

There are already theories that don't break the laws of physics. We simply don't know yet if any of them corresponds to the EmDrive physics. I tried to sum up all proposed working principles for the EmDrive, the good ones and the bad: Radiation pressure : Roger Shawyer's explanation about radiation...

Re: em drive

Can we discover the schedule for verification testing at other Labs? Do we know the high level protocol? Do they plan one device going round-robin to the other labs in sequence, or will they make 3 or more devices and send them out to the Labs? I don't think NASA knows yet. There are rumors that Gl...

Re: em drive

That's an interesting wish list but do remember that each of these permutations have different impedances and therefore require different power systems or at least specific adaptations of any given power system. These things are not plug and play. Agreed, but the data collected from the entirety sh...

Re: em drive

It's in the report, but only a few lines. Wow, my eyes clearly missed that part. I wonder why this information wasn't included in the measured thrust table above it. There is definitely evidence in their results for the dielectric being an important part of the thrust generation. Would be nice to s...

Re: BLP news

Blacklight Power got 11 million in funding from this round. Guess their presentations impressed investors: http://www.blacklightpower.com/whats-new/ Wonder whether that means they will disappear again for a few years only to reemerge with an even more outlandish claim. time will tell.. Exactly. I t...

Re: em drive

not all of us have access to Jim's email list. Could you please summarize what Paul wrote? X: “What puzzles me is the fact that with no dielectric, the tapered cavity produced no thrust, whereas it should have (according to Shawyer & the Chinese).” When did they do a test with a tapered cavity (Emd...

Re: em drive

It is part of the Standard Model that virtual particles pop into and out of the quantum vacuum all the time. According to Sonny, this is where the mass comes from and where it goes. The real trouble is that these are VIRTUAL, not real particles. There are so many of them, that if they gravitated, t...

Re: EM Drive

Also sounds like they were running at high vacuum. Turbopumps, outgassing for a couple of days ... I'll read in more detail. This part is a bit suspect. the NTRS Abstract claims they didnt test at high vacuum. The paper describes how they tested at high vacuum. Then the "Summary and Forward Work" s...

Re: em drive

The basic implication of your statements is that NASA as an entity cannot be trusted when it comes to reporting scientific results? Skippy has this right. It's not fair to the most often excellent workers at NASA to paint them all with the same brush. Dr. Sonny White is an aberration at NASA. He ha...

Re: em drive

Excuse you, but don't lecture me about my assumptions while you're busy making assumptions. You sound ridiculous. I don't have any need to present arguments nor evidence that comes to what you are proposing is the proper standard. When I say for example, that Sonny and Paul built a Shawyer resonato...

Re: em drive

Okay, so you tell me, when is enough, enough? The Brits funded this work for a decade despite it is based upon an engineer's faulty misunderstanding concerning GR and what "group velocity" entails. They got nothing. Paul March and Sonny White built this thing again with Gary Hudson's money, and aga...

Re: EM Drive

I read the abstract linked in the OP on some post either here or on NSF. Is there a complete report on the experiment by White, et.al available somewhere? And by the way, microwave oven frequency is chosen at the water line, so the microwave energy will excite the water in the food. Is the frequenc...

Re: EM Drive

The power source could be onboard or external, this wouldn't prevent spurious effects to show up. Those spurious causes involve device unbalance; current leakage, electrostatic spatial charge, thermal gradient, ion wind (that interacts with ambient air); EM coupling with the cables and structural f...

Re: EM Drive

I meant to ask you this before, why could the powersupply not being on the thrust measurement device be a problem? It's very common for engineers who are unfamiliar with a test setup to hypothesize the ridiculous, such as that the power supply being run off the balance causes some sort of spurious ...
