Re: Horrible.

Can't resist cross-linking this with the Skynet thread . I read a sci-fi short story in the 1970s or 80s about a robot/AI traffic cop who pulls some guy over and charges him with a minor traffic violation, then, by "...the authority of the Overpopulation Act of 1990..." (or something like that), pr...

Single Transferable Voting is not incompatible with Full Option Voting. You can implement Full Option Single Transferable Voting quite easily.

Re: Go Navy!

When I was part on the system, lasers were looked at as point defense against missiles and against unsymmetrical attacks like speedboats with heavily armed terrorists or pirates. Offense was not on the table.

With a Polywell, build an X-Cusp machine and you have "your wormhole".

Pepsi and wiskey good together, no? A waste of good whiskey if you ask me. If you're a Baptist and used to getting Welch's grape juice for communion, you'll be shocked to find that the Ewhiskeypalians use port wine. First, Ain't no good wiskey. (I hate the taste of oak). Grew up Unitarian/Universal...

Re: how to build a better electron accelerator/collimator?

The other way would be to have X-cusps at the confluence of the paired fields. An X-Cusp has no field (a funny cusp) at the very center so electrons can leave and enter with ease, but the magnet cans (which are NOT there) are still well shielded.

Re: When I was a kid, to get to school I had to ....

Why not put some telepresence classroom seats at the kid's location and not make them climb the 2625' cliff in the first place. And it would probably be cheaper than the stairs.
