oh, sorry i didn't realize that U238 was not a neutron emitter. so really to simplify the whole idea is use a beta emitter and cover it in a diode and cover that in a metal like copper then cover that in a electrical insulator. connect a wire to the beta emitter and the metal and the electrons will ...

wow, that is a new record for my inner scientist 15 minutes and he solved it, of course it wasn't that hard with the ultimate research tool and almighty time sink teh internet! so a U-238 doped thorium metal emits electrons and these great number of electrons will go through a Diode a diode is the s...

well that idea got blown out of the water, thanks for the facts! (challenges make for a interesting puzzle especially right now that I sliced my hand and rather bored for a few days while it heals, just a few stitches) however, round two: if you let the electrons hit a metal plate (such as aluminum)...

the now U-233 is positively charged after it gives off a electron in beta decay? I had the assumption that it would be in fact neutral still after giving off betas, but that would make sense from what I found. back to square one for my inner scientist (though he is already trying to come up with a s...

betas o' joy, or direct nuclear electricity

Fun, my inner scientist has found himself a new idea to latch onto. It started when I was watching the Google tech talk on thorium fluoride reactors, and while my inner scientist reversed engineered the whole thing and found out it was a bad KISS (keep it simple stupid) and said “if you used molten ...

well if any of the neutron club want to try a idea similar to this, it's not hard. Using radium is a aqueous solution as a fine mist in the reactor. The radium will quickly be ionized and go towards the center. This would be another experiment to see what happens. the fusion reactor would make some ...

using a deuterium or lead blanket would work well as a way of capturing the energy from the neutrons.
Though it's my lack of knowledge in certain areas of nuclear technology, but I thought that fission produced thermal energy as well as neutrons.

I didn't like the blanket idea, if you throw only small amounts at a time in the fusor directly the uranium will be less than a nanometer from the neutron source, causing almost complete burn the first time around. The small amount of waste will be the fission products that if the fusor shuts down w...

A new nuclear power device

This is a rather new idea, and those who do not fully understand it please ask me your questions. My scientific itch gets the better of me sometimes. The theory is that nuclear fission and fusion can be used to help each other, especially in the case of a standard fusor. I looked how the fusion bomb...
