Again I come back to the fact that the holes are ALREADY capped by the electric field. The magrid is held at positive potential, so electrons that escape from the wiffle ball will either have so much energy that they hit the wall or 1. Be accelerated to the magrid. 2. Be decelerated as they pass it...

Can you do that with Quaternions?

Of course not having done the math (I leave that to the physicists) the above is only an opinion. However, it is informed by some simulations I have seen. Computer Space Plasma Physics: Simulation Techniques and Software http://www.terrapub.co.jp/e-library/cspp/index.html Chapter 5 is useful. Kip T...

We should be able then to relate wiffle-ball radius and electron pressure in this way. Imagine an inflating balloon (the wiffle ball) between two spring-loaded boards (the magnetic field). As the pressure in the balloon goes up the springs give to equalise the load. The extra force is resisted by t...

As a past Research Fellow in Computational Electro-magnetics My research was on using modelling to predict sensitivity in systems and to understand when the 'theory' and a consequent electromagnetic 'model' create an unrealistic simulation of a real system. The guys here working to simulate a polyw...

The State of the Art in Hadron Beam Cooling: https://wiki.ornl.gov/sites/icns/HB%202008%20Published%20Talks/Monday-Opening%20Plenary/Prost.ppt I looked thru the linked .ppt but I guess I just don't get it. My apologies, I should have been clearer. On page 30 an RF cavity is used to recover energy f...

I like taxing profits rather than property. Because you can't really tell what the value of a property is unless there are profits. Profits are somewhat less subjective. How about taxing sales? Assume, for the sake of argument, an average operating profit margin of 10% and a tax rate on profits of ...

From: http://www.askmar.com/Fusion_files/EMC2%20Reports/IEC%20Electric%20Powerplants.pdf "Note that nearly all of the energy of the alpha particles produced in p11B fusion can be converted with a modest 2 MeV convertor that may be only 0.4!1.6 meters or so in width. This is because these alphas are...

From what I'm reading it looks like a beam power tube configuration (focused beam) would have a lot of advantages including a narrowing of energy spread due to energy interchange between the lower and higher energy particles. http://deepblue.lib.umich.edu/bitstream/2027.42/4647/5/bab7242.0001.001.p...

DJ,

You've got the right attitude. Stick with it, you're doing fine.

Where is the experimental content regarding energy recovery in this paper you reference, and how does it demonstrate "experience". The author of this paper merely has experience of waffling on about something with erroneous facts. The paper demonstrates that Bussard was already considering the prac...

Only if you artificially ignore the rest of Bussard's experience, some of which is relevant. I would be interest to hear what relevant experience he had with energy recovery from ion beams. I am not aware of any. Start here: http://www.askmar.com/Fusion_files/EMC2%20Reports/IEC%20Electric%20Powerpl...

chrismb wrote:"I have never tried to do it, which is about as many times as Bussard tried, so I guess that makes us equals in this regard." which IS an argument wrt experience and, thus, is valid by your OWN criteria.
