What you have failed to note about the three incidents I selected (or perhaps knew but avoided acknowledging) is that all three involved major incompetence, and all three were covered up. And that's the problem. What you fail, and fail completely, is that all three accidents were minor. There were ...

You are leaving out religion; a force more irrational than nationalism by far. Jihadis claim to love death. MAD might not be a deterrence in such a case. It might be an incentive. I know a few people that think that on that claim, the USA shouldn't have atomic weapons either. He wasn't serious, but...

What next, the army telling us they have lost tanks due to paperwork errors.. Wink Probably a few hundred, you just never hear about it because tank count are not followed by sensationist reporters. Hey, what to see crappy built reactors, just come to the UK and inspect ours! I cannot comment or ve...

Zixinus, You are obviously well educated. One of my biggest problems with the wiki is the "lack of traceability" for each and every statement made. In that vein, please explain who you are, and what credentials you have. What does Wikipedia's problems have to do with me? EDIT:Another thing: This tr...

No one wants to be blamed for an accident, everyone covers their ass when an accident happens, and in the quest for profits, safety is squeezed often beyond safe limits, you only have to ask aircraft mechanics to hear about the awful level of maintence that goes on there on a regular basis. Or the ...

Once you have a good neutron source Pu is not hard to come by.
And you still need reprocessing technologies, and testing.

The later stories hinted that most of it was thought to be stuck in the plumbing, though of course, some of it may have gone walkies, its hard to tell for sure if the paperwork isn't all in place. If you can do the same paperwork and engineering, and do it flawlessly, then talk. All I understand is...

The NNI (National Nanotech Initiative) does not take the long view on nanosystems, instead they pursue nanoparticles & clusters for coatings, powders. Also self-assembled layered stuff is OK. But things like CPU's, bearings, and the like, forget it. Remember the KISS princible. It might be better t...

Brown's Ferry. Oh yes, the hundreds and hundreds of people that non-died at Brown's Ferry is such a terrible tragedy if they would have died at all. Of course they didn't, and even if it did, it would have created a mess but would have killed no more then Three Miles Island did. For which not to th...

In the UK we have 'lost' plenty of the stuff over the years, and at times it is transported without any security at all. Is this a fact or just legend? If someone "lost" a 40 ton container of highly valuable nuclear fuel, that would go on the international news. Having spoken with people who have w...

I have difficulties with the math. If I learned one thing about it, is that every mathematician uses a different symbol for various mathematical work. Can anybody supply me with a good, coherent site regarding math? I'm not used to how English deals with math.
