Re: Princeton FRC work
I just read the paper. That's really interesting. But, as a noob to it, here's what I don't understand: they seem to have a design for a small (a few meters) reactor that will produce 1 to 10 MW of net power with relatively low nutrino radiation. And they're tinkering with how to use it to send thin...

Re: Dr. Park invites questions from the community
Here are Dr. Park's answers for questions 7-10. 7. Is there a reconciliation between this machines low Beta cusp confinement numbers and those claimed for WB6? WB6 was ~ 60 passes , while this machine was ~7 passes. Given that simple biconic mirror confinement was quoted as ~ 5-8 passes (in the old...

Re: Dr. Park invites questions from the community
Dr. Park has kindly sent me very thoughtful answers to questions 1-6, and intends to work on the remaining questions over the weekend. I know you will have follow-up questions, but let's try to be respectful of Dr. Park's time and glean as much as we can from just the answers provided for now. Here ...

Re: Dr. Park invites questions from the community
Well, I've sent the top-10 questions off to Dr. Park. Some of the questions are quite detailed, and possibly more than he bargained for. I think we should be grateful for whatever information he's able to provide.
I'll pass along his answers as soon as I get them!
Best,
- Joe

Re: Dr. Park invites questions from the community
I like it. That makes sense to me.
Going once... I'll send this off to Dr. Park in the morning if there are no further suggestions.

Re: Dr. Park invites questions from the community
OK then, unless somebody strenuously (and quickly!) objects, I think I'm going to send on questions 1-8, 11, and 12. Question 13 is interesting but the answer is likely to be "probably not," and "as if we should have such a problem." 12, on the other hand, is more concrete and seems more likely to p...

Re: Dr. Park invites questions from the community
OK, thanks everyone for the brainstorming. I've fallen behind schedule now, and asked Dr. Park to give us a few more days to get our act together. So let's see if we can whittle this down to our top 10. Here I've gathered all the questions I found, combined ones that were essentially the same, and a...

Re: What would a fusion reactor look like from the outside?
Thanks, guys! Radiators are a separate component; in fact that's what that giant fin is in the image above. (It has sunlight on it only in design mode; when you actually build your colony, the radiator always faces directly towards or away from the sun, to see as much black sky as possible.) So, yea...

What would a fusion reactor look like from the outside?
Hey all, I've been working for about a year and a half on a video game about space settlement . In this game, you can choose various power sources for your space colony, including solar and traditional fission. You can see the fission plant at the bottom of the long axial boom in the image below. ht...

Re: Dr. Park invites questions from the community
Fusion one is a company started in Nov 2014 by Randal Volberg (the former CEO of a lithium enhanced water company) in Vancouver. I would have written them off completely, but they managed to snag Dr. Paul Sieck (EMC2 former head plasma physicist) and Dr. Scott Cornish (who developed polywells at th...

Top 10 Questions with Dr. Park
As I suspect we have readers who more frequently check the News subforum than any other, I thought I would post here a pointer to this thread , where we will be preparing 10 questions for Dr. Park (of EMC2) to answer. And hey, it is news, since as far as I'm aware this is the first time Dr. Park has...

Dr. Park invites questions from the community
I've been contacted by Dr. Jaeyoung Park of EMC2. He expresses his appreciation for the Talk-Polywell community. As a token of appreciation, and considering that they no longer work for the Navy and thus no longer have to keep mum, he is inviting the community to come up with a "Top 10 Questions" li...
Re: EM Drive
There seems to be a lot of irresponsible journalism on this topic. "NASA confirms that the ‘impossible’ EmDrive thruster really works" is just plain false. An accurate headline would be "NASA eliminates some sources of error, hasn't yet falsified EmDrive thruster." It's not a confirmation that it wo...
