Re: EMC2 news

I am well aware that many people with computer science degrees are highly concerned about code efficiency. My point here is that while it may be desirable, it isn't essential for this purpose that the code be efficient. What is essential is that it gets the physics right, and if you accomplish that...

It appears the Hs 293D had TV guidance, though the wiki page said it (and the wire-guided variant) did not reach operational status before the end of the war.

Re: Neumann Drive

Checking the website, they list a number of different fuel types they have tried. I think I most enjoy the ones that didn't work. e.g., Bismuth . Bismuth was a material we had high hopes for. It has been used as propellant in other electric spacedrives, notably in the work done by Massey on Bismuth-...

The V2, or something else? I'm guessing you are not referring to the V2 in this case.

I cannot agree more with this, and with ladajo. That sucks.

Re: Army discovers new energy source

I wonder if this would be something where combining thermal-to-electric, in addition to the fuel-cell nature, would be worthwhile. The article states its an exothermic reaction, and one part says not a catalyst (which implies O2 is getting bound up in the Al powder) but another part mentions recombi...

Re: LENR Is Real

To my mind the sudden declaration of a second, previously unspoken of, pump is directly equivalent to teh device having a second, previously unspoken of, power source. Fishy.

Re: Stuff in Space

Assuming "metal detection via UV sensing" works, it seems to me that it would work best when the body being checked is not in conjunction with its local star, which is the opposite of most of the remote (extra-solar) system detection work done so far (as I understand it, anyway). That would minimize...

Am I remembering correctly that he's had four different variations on a theme so far? The e-cat, the hot cat, the one "in use" now, and the squawk ... I mean, quark-x ? Considering he hasn't actually sold anything , it amazes me that people still buy into it. I'd love for it to work, but not enough ...

Re: Stuff in Space

We had a FLIR camera at the datacenter I used to work in. We used it to check breaker panels and subfloor power outlets for power issues/faults. It was easy to see which customers were exceeding the recommended 80% amperage on their power circuits based on the breaker temperatures (hmmm ... could it...

Re: Skynet is coming.

A rapid googling of 'dragonfly wing frequency' shows the following at the top of the page: Our experimental results show that the fundamental natural frequency of dragonfly wings is in the order of 170 Hz when it is clamped at the wing base. The average flapping frequency 27 Hz of dragonflies is abo...

Re: Skynet is coming.

A friend had a belt attached device that emits sound at the frequency of dragon fly wings to keep mosquitoes away, and it apparently worked pretty well for him. Having real dragonflys, of course, is better since they actively hunt the mosquitoes.

Stuff in Space

I thought you folks would find this site interesting. http://stuffin.space

It displays data pulled daily from space-track.org, and shows it in a nifty WebGL 3d (javascript) display.

From this, you can really appreciate how much stuff is just floating around our planet. ;)
