The FDPS sites latest entry is from May 21, 2013 and if you hit "View" on the page the projects end date is given as Est. Ultimate Completion Date (mm/dd/yyyy) : 09/30/2013
https://www.fpds.gov/ezsearch/search.do ... %22&desc=Y

I found with the same contract number this PDF-file from July 2013
http://www.navair.navy.mil/nawcwd/nawcw ... y_2013.pdf
which says
N68936-09-C-0125 ENERGY/MATTER CONVERSION CORPORATION SS $ 17,554,409 9/10/2014

Research Development Test Evaluation (RDT&E) Plan
Plasma Fusion (Polywell) project for research, analysis,
development, and testing to validate the basic physics of the
plasma fusion (polywell) concept as well as requirements to
provide the Navy with data for potential applications of
polywell fusion with a delivered item, wiffleball 8 (WB8) .

The end date is different here. I don't know if the money sum mentioned only concerns previously awarded funding or if this also contains new funding. Maybe those who have a better view of EMCC accounting can comment?

crowberry,
My, oh my. I do believe you might have found Bigfoot's (WB-8.1) budgetary footprint. Award modification P000010 was the last to include a completion date for WB-8.1 and it was also 9-10-14, then it was dropped to show only WB-8 completion dates. So, it looks to me like the budget preparation clerk grabbed the last WB-8.1 option completion date of 9-10-14 from that modification report. The budgetary figure of $17,554,409 is slightly different than the radio'd value of $17,558,191.74 shown in all of the previous award modification reports, therefore there is either an EMC2 WB-8.1 update, or two numbers were added to derive that figure.

That is my view from the lawn chair, i.e. we have a WB-8.1 project footprint sighting.

Kudos on you search-fu

I dunno. I am not sure I see it that way.

Really what we need is to see update 16 on the N6893609C0125 contract.

Or, in the best world, maybe we would see a new contract.

Ladajo,
It certainly is not definitive, but the timing is right, and it took forever for P00015 to show up. Moreover, if WB-8.1 did not get funded, given that the WB-8 contract has ended as shown on P00015 with both completion date and money spent to the very penny, then the project is finished. This project can't run with funding gaps as the people go away. Restarting then is not like hiring a plumber. And further, as previously stated, the WB-8.1 hardware needed to have been ordered at least 6 months ago.

Still, there is Tri-Alpha and General Fusion efforts, which show us what serious efforts really look like. Makes Polywell look like a red headed Cinderella step child. I mean really!, General Fusion is going for net this year, with $80million cash lined up for the full size prototype when things pan out. Polywell on the other hand is given underpowered electron guns, twice? Enough of my worn out rant, and the point is Polywell may have really nice scaling, but the other nags in the race have hay and have strong chances of success. To be even more clear, my hopes for real fusion power, soon, is not dependent on the Navy's limp funding fiddling.

And what is it with this site?

I am with you as far as any horse can pull the wagon.
I would offer that FPDS is notoriously slow on contract updates. My worry is not having seen a new solicitation. Even a sole source gets posted.

I think we will know something here soon on EMC2. I anticipate before the new year.

But they already have that, and they already have a contract. Do they need to make a special move to approve the option besides what we have seen encouraged by the review board when the board said they recommend the program be expanded? Paperwork foot dragging, what could be easier to do, with a little whoops.....nudge, nudge, wink, wink...and a year can slip by. They have the July budget award, No? Oh, yea, the disbursements must show up on FPDS! Boxed in, will return to sitting on hands some more.

That General Fusion development effort is so stunningly smart and fast paced. They developed the critical components (pistons and plasma injectors) for full size without a full size sphere! It just goes to show what people can do when they are good at development management. Utilities, aluminum, titanium, steel, the world over will be lining up to sign contracts the moment they build their first full scale prototype. And watch the oil countries hot tin roof dance with the glaring end of the line in sight for trillions in easy money propping up their socialist regimes. And the water mellon heads looking for something else to protest about. Sorry if I am showing irrational glee at the thought of it all. Even fracking has kinked their knickers.

Of course once that happens, ITER will implode (pop some more corks) and check book and mind will open to other fusion approaches, but they who are slow miss the biggest worms. Just musing. Yea, yea, heard it all before show me net for real. That we should see before the year ends, supposedly.

It is new realtive to us. But was done in 2011.
It would seem to coincide with stepping things up in San Diego.

I wonder what he purpose is? My guess is Maryland Tax breaks. It would seem Dolly is still where she ahs always been.

Nice finds guys. Can you think of anything we would look for in terms of hardware for a p-B11 run? Maybe better ion guns? I think they would still be the first fusion reactor type machine in which p-B11 has been done (iirc the others were accelerators)...

Someone should drive by and look for discarded boxes of BORAX :)

I remember people saying the same thing about Focus Fusion in 2007, with their funding and targeted net power date in late 2010. I don't think you have to ask how that worked out.

It would certainly be nice if Polywells got more funding, but by far the most likely scenario is that nothing in development today ultimately pans out. Having the right concept is going to matter a lot more in the end (and I can't believe there are more than a couple viable concepts out there). I mean, look how far NIF and tokamaks are -- tens of billions spent in the last couple decades, still at least decades away from even a plausible commercial design.

Patience...

The Google satellites are much easier to hack than the NGA's.
