High temperature quantum anomalous Hall effect

Post by Giorgio »

A good day for all Thermoelectric and advanced material scientist.

The existence of a magnetic Weyl semi-metal in the form of Co3Sn2S2 that could display a quantum anomalous hall effect at room temperature was theorized one year ago, and today the announcement that the compound was realized and is indeed showing the theorized properties.
Research is still going on, with the next step being able to attain the most important feature, maintain stability of the quantum anomalous hall effect at room temperature.

Such a material could enable among other things a direct Thermoelectric conversion of heat from any reactor at high efficiencies and small dT.
