It looks to me like a good metaphor for the Polywell is a linear synchrotron. Particles are accelerated in bunches.
Despite the DC drive it appears that this really is an AC machine with self synchronizing particle beams.
it is quite likely that adding some AC drive at the right frequency will enhance performance.
It may be that we will find that an all AC drive (with suitable DC bias to prevent electrostatic field reversal) will be the way to go.
