Looks like it will be a Slaughter in November...
Since Slaughter has the 50% + 1 "solution".

What happens to a political party that does something they know ahead of time that about 60% of the people do not want, and where the strong feelings run about 4 to 1 against?

But while about 30% think the current law goes to far, 30% think it doesn't go far enough!TDPerk wrote:What happens to a political party that does something they know ahead of time that about 60% of the people do not want, and where the strong feelings run about 4 to 1 against?
So when the law passes, individual legislators will start talking about modifications that will either weaken or strengthen the law passed on what the local districts wants...
My bet is that once the law is passed and the hysteria passes this will not strongly affect the elections.
The law they are voting on will have some immediate effects but most people won't see much change until well after the next election.
"But while about 30% think the current law goes to far, 30% think it doesn't go far enough!"
Except that's not true. It's not that popular. More people oppose it than support it, and four times as many people strongly oppose it as strongly support it.
It's a dead dog only a yellow dog could vote for.

Yes...the current law IS strongly oppposed by a 4 to 1 margin.TDPerk wrote:"But while about 30% think the current law goes to far, 30% think it doesn't go far enough!"

But when you ask WHY 4 to 1 people strongly oppose it you get 2 people who strongly oppose it because they think it is socialist while at the same time, 2 people will strongly oppose it because it is insipid and does NOT contain a public option.
This is what I am saying...60% dislike the law and 48% strongly oppose it. But 30% (with 24% strongly) feel it goes way too far. 30% (with 24% strongly) feel it doesn't go far enough!
Fundamentally, this law IS right in the middle.
Half the country wants less and half the country wants more while almost half the country think the current law as it stands should be passed. I have seen polls that say the 70% want some form of public option. That it isn't there is the cause of half the opposition to the current law...
Now personally, I oppose this law because I don't think it goes far enough. A public option is a real necessity for effective coverage. BUT I ALSO think the current law should be passed. This will be a good first step and as we see how it actually works we can update it to the US situation.
Just because 60% aren't happy DOESN'T mean that only 40% want to pass the law.
Most of the opposition actually comes from the 60% to 70% of the population who are satisfied with their health care and don't want the government messing with it. Add in the other 30% who want more Central Government interference in the market and I do not think it will pass.
The Government will have to do a LOT more to ruin the efficiency of the current system in order to get people to ask for the Great White Father (or is it Great Black Father) in Washington to fix it.

MassCare is a failure as is TennCare. This will be a good first step and as we see how it actually works we can update it to the US situation.
Nationalizing those programs will not make them work any better.
So we can see how it actually works. People who favor such plans would rather avert their eyes.
You will note that obama uses neither program in pushing his own. Would you care to try?
Not to worry Madam Pelosi says you can't find out what is in the bill until it passes. With an endorsement like that how can it fail?

So why isn't our esteemed Present using it as a sales point?clonan wrote:And Hawaii Health care, which is the most similar to this plan, is a resounding success and has been for 20+ years.MSimon wrote: So we can see how it actually works. People who favor such plans would rather avert their eyes.
Opponents to such would rather avert their eyes...
BTW how do you know what is in the Bill? Has Madame Pelosi told you? Can you tell us? Would that be giving away secrets? Can I get an exclusive interview from you? It would help my blog traffic. Or Perhaps DU would be a better venue. Help this government be the most open honest ever. If you post your info 3 days before the vote you will be helping this government keep its promise. That would be truly noble.
