Sounds exotic! Dangerous! Maybe a bit naughty?

Actually Pecha Kucha is a presentation format. You get to present 20 PowerPoint slides each programmed to run for 20 seconds. Make your point in 6 minutes 40 seconds, then sit down and shut up!

They say it was invented for architechs who will otherwise run on indefinitely. And consider the last fusion talk I did was 90 minutes solo, and I had more than enough slides to keep going.

Pecha Kuchas seem to be mostly social get-togethers now, organized but intended largely to be entertaining. You're supposed to make them lively and funny. I've been invited to give my 6:40 as the wild-eyed SF writer. The theme of the night is the future, 2020 and beyond, focussed on energy technologies, and I'm told my job is to really push the limits. Break out the space colonization slides! Light on the technical details, heavy on the future possibilities.

21 October, Swedish Embassy, House of Sweden, DC. Proceeds go to help Haiti.

Tom,
The Swede's love technology and invention, they are great engineers and researchers. Don't miss an opportunity here! Sell them everything you can, and get Polywell in the mix!
Who knows, if the idea germinates, they may very well beat the navy to the punch.

It is more work boiling a 90-minute presentation down to 6 minutes 40 seconds than it is putting together a 90-minute presentation!

These things get great turnouts. Session 1 sold out. Session 2 they moved us to an open area where they can handle more people.

The session 1 speakers were all high-ranking Nordic energy pros and politicians. Their approaches were fairly mundane. They make a big deal out of using low-grade waste heat for space-heating buildings. Evidently the business model involves making powerplants locate near population centers, and requiring everyone in the population center to sign up, but they are making it work. No big surprise, as it was part of Edison's business model when he electrified New York City.

They're also fond of taxing the dickens out of "sinners". This will get you booted if proposed this November in the US.

In Session 2, I was impressed by the presentation by Edison2 on their winning automotive X-Prize entry. Read their website ... after an honest evaluation, the answers did not take them down the path you might guess. The car is a gasser and it beat all comers. http://www.edison2.com/

My talk got a lot of positive comments. I got a few good chuckles going, and I know I knocked their socks off with my list of high school fusioneers, and all they've accomplished. The slides and audio will eventually be posted on their website.

At least I got a laugh. I had hoped they would have the talks archived somewhere.

The talk I enjoyed most was that streamlined car (the last talk). I think it was written up in Popular Science or Popular Mechanics a few months ago.
