Currently there is no "FAQ" on this subject, but if someone is willing to "Ask the Question" and write a good answer, I'd be most willing to insert it. I would like more than just a list of links. Company name, type of machine, known or suspected funding level, chief scientist, WAG and whether and how soon, that sort of thing.
Thanks.
Slough is behind both Helion energy and MSNW. From what I understand MSNW is doing the academic research while Helion is doing the commercialization of it.
Here is the direct link to the Helion homepage: http://www.helionenergy.com/
Quite a nice list, unfortunately there is little to no news from each one of these companies, so probably the use of the words "race heat up" is not really the best one.
Aren't you forgetting about the roughly monthly updates from LPP?
Nope (shock, awe). So many posts, so little time... The patent application has the word "fusion", so I moved him up a couple of lines. Now if I had time to actually read it...
The post at the first link contains images of the device and the rubicund toroidal plasma. The post at the second link contains links to a couple of YouTube videos.
Temperature, density, confinement time: pick any two.
Are there any hard and fast standards on what can be thrown into the pot? I'm sure I could come up with quite a few. For now I'll just draw your attention to this variation on the standard fusor:
The diagram here reminds me of my childhood thought experiments regarding what would happen if I jumped into a hole through the earth, although I didn't consider the possibility of someone jumping in after me.
Temperature, density, confinement time: pick any two.
DV, I think you are over-listing here. You're gonna end up with my 'List of Fusion Technologies' list if you keep going (from which I already deleted someone's addition of 'crossfire fusion' off of http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_fu ... chnologies).
You should make some rules like "is there IP protection and/or do they have accounts and aim for profits/licence sales", something like that. Maybe also, 'reported activity in the last 6 months' might help whittle away the 'also-ran's from the runners.
