The U.S. Department of Defense has revealed in a press release dated Jan. 9, 2017 that three U.S. Navy F/A-18 Hornet two-seat variants have successfully released a “swarm” of 103 Perdix semi-autonomous drones in flight. The tests were carried out at China Lake range, on Oct. 25, 2016, and were administered by the Department of Defense, the Strategic Capabilities Office, partnering with Naval Air Systems Command.

Maybe next, the beehive artillery round could take on a whole new meaning. Mosquito sized drones with curare and cyanide stingers.

Software beating word recognition captchas is old news, at least if you've put much into keeping spammers at bay.

I've often wondered what would happen if a squadron of F18G's went up against a squadron of F35's. Kriegspiel?

You can't replace the F-35 with an F-18 any more than you can replace an aircraft carrier with a cruise ship. type of engagement, what support aircraft is available. 1V1 1v4 standoff 1v1 1v2 head to head, missile warfare, guns guns guns ,aspect maneuver . CAS, DCA, DEAD, Strike, OCA Strike, SEAD Escort - SEAD Escort for friendly flight(s). Escort for strike (or other) packages, escort role concentrating on SEAD.
SEAD Strike, TARCAP - Target Combat Air Patrol

Are you starting to see the problem :D Never guess what I do for a living :)

You left off OTH ISR&T, EA, ECM, PICKAINT, NIFCA-CA, ASUW, SWINGCAP, ...
Guess what I do for a living...

18 Legacy and 18 Supers are most definitely not F-35. The closest thing would be an EA, however they can't even do everything the 35 can.
In fact, neither can a 22.

If you are in a fight, dying, and don't know why... you are probably going against 35s. Just my two cents.
Now, if I can get the Navy to reconfigure the two LHAs as CVLs, embarking a full squadron of 35s, I think we are onto something. And yes, I am working on that. :)

your right
But if you do that what our us Marines going to ride on it and in it? The Harriers were only slated to 2025 at best. And if you take away our LHA's we are going have to start hanging around the Air Force tanker guys (the horror) :D
And I remember you work in the navy yard.

I only want the two LHAs. They are pretty useless for ARG purposes anyway. Better off IMO as CVLs or CVEs.
Oh, and I am not at the Navy Yard.

I was on the Nassau in 81 when they were "designated" as a aircraft carrier, reinforcing Sixth Fleet carrier USS Saratoga.

Ahh, the good (old) ship Nassau... sailed on her as well.

I think you may have been confusing me with one of our other denizens that, as I recall, did time at the Yard.

The nice thing about the LHAs we have now is they were built for air. The (would have been) well deck spaces set as IAMD spaces, can be configured for a full squadron of 35s without a lot of comparative drama. A few boundary hardenings, and lock installations, etc. and good to go, then it is a matter of the gear for mission support.

They would do better at this role than trying to fit them as square pegs into the round LHD holes.
