It's looking positive for Republicans so far but the next 8-9 months are an eternity in politics. It appears as though the R's will gain seats and maybe get the House but not the Senate. If you're a Democrat, that can be good news considering the health care controversy. If HC passes, the Democrats will lose worse. Especially, if no perceived pivot to jobs is undertaken by the White House.

What's more interesting is the 2012 landscape where over 20 Democratic senators are up for reelection. If the President doesn't pivot to the center ala Bill Clinton, a massacre is brewing on Nov.6, 2012.

I have seen reports (speculation) that House losses for the Ds could run as high as 80 seats.

My speculation is that by Nov the number could go to 100 seats.

Important factors that help Republicans and hurt Democrats in 2010

* The Khalid Sheikh Mohammed trial is kept in a civillian court.
* High unemployment until November
* Partisan power brokering/deal making (eg Bill Nelson)
* Rising gas prices, inflation, interest rates, falling dollar
* Passing health care
* The always present potential major terrorist attack

Important factors that hurt Republicans and help Democrats

* Conservatives and Tea Partiers not trusting them in November
* A perceived lack of vision by moderates and independents
* Democrats giving up/losing on health care

Unknowns

* Russian Aggression
* Israel striking Iran's nuclear facilities and a major war breaking out

It appears as though the Republicans are holding steady at gaining back seats in all the elections but enough to take control? Here's Rasmussen's generic polls on R's vs. D's...

The polls are bull, this far out.

What will decide it is the economic situation in the final month before elections.
