Not surprising...after all the conservative god Reagan wasn't much for gun rights either. As gov of california signed one of the most restrictive gun laws at the time and as ex-pres supported the Brady bill. The truth of the matter is most Dem politicians seem to support gun control, and most Republicans politicians do too just somewhat less than dems do (when nobody is looking.) As the public in the US has rightly turned against gun control many republicans are trying to postion themselves as pro guns all along. Governments period don't like the idea of citizens(serfs/subjects) having guns, never really has never really will.Skipjack wrote:Funny detail on gun laws:
Despite the NRA's warning that Obama would be the worst president ever on gun control, the only actual gun control actions he took were Lifting bans on guns that Bush put in place (in parks and Amtrak stations).
Romney on the other hand, said he was a lifelong hunter (which wasn't true), and added a fee to gun permits that raised their cost 400% in Massachusetts. A 'tax hike on gun owners', as Gingrich called it.
The original gun control laws that were passed in the South after the slaves were freed only were intended to disarm free blacks. They weren't seen as a threat by white gun owners at the time either. Of course they eventually became the architect of those later laws passed by those who wanted to disarm everybody.MSimon wrote:At: http://www.gunvaluesboard.com/interview ... s-772.html
I discuss why gunners don't see Drug Prohibition as a threat.

Since Nixon declared War On Drugs and ramped up what until then was a relatively minor government program, can we then attribute to him the 50K to 100K Americans killed in the Drug War since then plus the 100K+ Mexicans. And the Colombians. etc?djolds1 wrote:El zilch killed at the Watergate Hotel.MSimon wrote:50,000 killed by Prohibition.
The comparison is respective scandals, not the Meta-Trends of two generations.MSimon wrote:Since Nixon declared War On Drugs and ramped up what until then was a relatively minor government program, can we then attribute to him the 50K to 100K Americans killed in the Drug War since then plus the 100K+ Mexicans. Ah. But Nixon was involved in both scandals. In one as the victim in the other he was foundational.djolds1 wrote:The comparison is respective scandals, not the Meta-Trends of two generations.MSimon wrote:Since Nixon declared War On Drugs and ramped up what until then was a relatively minor government program, can we then attribute to him the 50K to 100K Americans killed in the Drug War since then plus the 100K+ Mexicans. Yes, the War on Some Drugs (WoSD) is an idiot endeavor; yet still it remains.
In Texas, they voted AGAINST the NRA-backed candidate in College Station, because the NRA endorsed a Democrat. Most of the conservatives in that town allegedly didn't know who the NRA was backing, they just assumed it was the Republican. The truth of the matter is most Dem politicians seem to support gun control, and most Republicans politicians do too just somewhat less than dems do (when nobody is looking.)
