Can An Abortion Ban Work?

Post by MSimon »

When there's demand for an illicit or tightly regulated good or service, underground suppliers always arise. For women in Texas, with its increasingly restrictive abortion laws, that supply comes in the form of abortifacient drugs flowing across the border from Mexico, where they are available without a prescription.

At an open-air flea market outside McAllen, Texas, Mexican-sourced Cytotec, which is commonly used for treating stomach ulcers, is available for sale, according to a July report by Bloomberg. WebMD cautions that the drug, generically known as misoprostol, "may cause abortion, premature birth, or birth defects." That "side effect" is exactly what purchasers at the flea market have in mind.

"You'd be amazed at how many people, young people, are taking those pills," Erlinda Dasquez, who says she has used the drug herself, told Bloomberg. "I probably know 12 to 20 people who have done this. My cousin just went to the flea market a few months ago."

If you wanna kill women because you hate them?

Sure, it'll work great.

Why stop at abortions?
Utah, Mississippi and Georgia have considered/are considering laws against miscarriage/stillbirths.
Other states like Alabama have prosecuted women for

American Taliban FTW! Women are just incubators for men's children!
Georgia via MotherJones wrote:Under Rep. Franklin's bill, HB 1, women who miscarry could become felons if they cannot prove that there was "no human involvement whatsoever in the causation" of their miscarriage. There is no clarification of what "human involvement" means, and this is hugely problematic as medical doctors do not know exactly what causes miscarriages. Miscarriages are estimated to terminate up to a quarter of all pregnancies and the Mayo Clinic says that "the actual number is probably much higher because many miscarriages occur so early in pregnancy that a woman doesn't even know she's pregnant. Most miscarriages occur because the fetus isn't developing normally."
Nothing like being presumed to be guilty until proven innocent.

I wonder how these people would handle a miscarriage or birth defects due to doctor prescribed medicine like Thalidomide? Women haters, all of them.

A Georgia state representative has reintroduced an anti-abortion bill that would make miscarriages a felony if the mother cannot prove there was no "human involvement."

The legislation from Rep. Bobby Franklin, a Republican, would make all abortions, described as "prenatal murder," illegal based on the belief that all life begins at conception. The bill's definition of "prenatal murder" excludes miscarriages "so long as there is no human involvement whatsoever" in causing them. Anyone convicted would face the death penalty or life behind bars.

Miscarriages, defined as pregnancies that end on their own within the first 20 weeks, are quite common. As many as 40 percent of all pregnancies end in miscarriage, often before a woman misses a menstrual period or even knows she is pregnant, according to the March of Dimes. About 10 to 15 percent of recognized pregnancies end in a miscarriage, the group found.

How do you prove a negative?

Which just goes to show you that Republicans are just as crazy as Democrats. Just about different things.

You are a truth hater who deliberately spreads lies because it suits your cult.

You make not the slightest pretense of attempting to understand your opposition, you don't fathom the philosophical underpinnings, you are just a mouth that keeps saying stupid shit.

You are the kind of person that the world needs far less of; Ignorant, opinionated and intolerant of ideas which you haven't the wit to comprehend. You are an intellectual Neanderthal.

The belief that Human life starts at conception is an unassailable argument from a scientific point of view, but once again, you and your side have no interest in following scientific method when it deviates from your desired outcome.

You mindlessly equate "protection of human life" with "Hates Women."

There is no reasoning with people such as yourself, and this is why I somewhat look forward to the cleansing fire which I expect will sweep through some time in the not so distant future.

The Economic Ideas of your side of the political spectrum are just as much nonsense as are your opinions on moral issues.

Abortion will not be the big killer. The Big killer will be Leftest economics, which are just an extension of leftest morality.

The man's bill will never amount to anything. In the meantime, Democrat craziness is killing people across the country, but of course we need to focus on important things like the fervent need society has for people to rid themselves of the humans they created.

In any large group with open membership you will find individuals with wacky ideas. The measure of the group is how well the wacky ideas catch on. Leftist fiscal insanity appears the norm among democrats. Support for an absolute no exception ban on abortion is a fringe position. Even among strong pro-lifers I expect an exception would be allowed paralleling self defense in taking a human life.

It is. Most pro-lifers recognize that in an issue of health, the woman has the stronger claim of protection for herself. There are a few that spout that "no abortion under any circumstances" opinion, but most pro-life people do not feel this way.

I know because i've talked to a great many of them, and this is a very conservative state. I've met the fringies, they make noise but they don't move much policy.

I will also point out that Jewish Law had it right all along. An abortion was always permissible if the child became a "pursuer" meaning someone who is threatening the life of the mother.

This is just plain common sense.
