Denver Murder Rate Drops 46%

Post by MSimon »

In the first six months since Colorado legalized marijuana, homicides in Denver fell by more than 60 percent, according to government data.

The 60% number is wrong (1-13/24)*100= 45.83%

What about other crime?
It’s all kinds of crime that has decreased, and not even all dispensaries were able to be up and running in Denver since January 1st due to regulatory hurdles and licensing issues still being sorted out. Property crime is down 14.6%. Violent crime is down 2.4%. It certainly doesn’t look like what opponents of Amendment 64 would have liked everyone to believe – that the streets would be full of violent hooligan, and legalizing weed would make the devil creep the streets of Denver.

Between January 1 and April 30, violent crime and property crime in Denver — the most populated city in Colorado, in terms of both people and weed dispensaries — dropped 10.6 percent compared to that same span one year earlier, official statistics reveal. Homicides have dropped to less than half of last year’s levels, and motor vehicle theft has shrunk by over one-third.

It is actually theft from motor vehicles (1- 2338/3512)*100 = 33.43% for the six month period from 1 Jan.

A significant fraction of domestic criminal violence is Prohibition related. Say haven’t we seen that movie before?
