How Cancer Cells Work

Post by MSimon »

In every cell there is a family of interconvertible sphingolipids that specifically manage the life and death of that cell. This profile of factors is called the “Sphingolipid Rheostat.” If endogenous ceramide(a signaling metabolite of sphingosine-1-phosphate) is high, then cell death (apoptosis) is imminent. If ceramide is low, the cell is strong in its vitality.

Very simply, when THC connects to the CB1 or CB2 cannabinoid receptor site on the cancer cell, it causes an increase in ceramide synthesis which drives cell death. A normal healthy cell does not produce ceramide in the presence of THC, thus is not affected by the cannabinoid.

The cancer cell dies, not because of cytotoxic chemicals, but because of a tiny little shift in the mitochondria. Within most cells there is a cell nucleus, numerous mitochondria (hundreds to thousands), and various other organelles in the cytoplasm. The purpose of the mitochondria is to produce energy (ATP) for cell use. As ceramide starts to accumulate, turning up the Sphingolipid Rheostat, it increases the mitochondrial membrane pore permeability to cytochrome c, a critical protein in energy synthesis. Cytochrome c is pushed out of the mitochondria, killing the source of energy for the cell.

Ceramide also causes genotoxic stress in the cancer cell nucleus generating a protein called p53, whose job it is to disrupt calcium metabolism in the mitochondria. If this weren’t enough, ceramide disrupts the cellular lysosome, the cell’s digestive system that provides nutrients for all cell functions. Ceramide, and other sphingolipids, actively inhibit pro-survival pathways in the cell leaving no possibility at all of cancer cell survival.

The key to this process is the accumulation of ceramide in the system. This means taking therapeutic amounts of CBD and THC, steadily, over a period of time, keeping metabolic pressure on this cancer cell death pathway.

When I looked at your thread description, I thought perhaps you were going to discuss some OTHER topic than how drugs are the solution to all the world's problems and so we should legalize them, but I see that your thread description was misleading.

Your topic is once again, "How drugs are the solution to all the world's problems and so we should legalize them."

Well I dunno. The article does describe how cancer cells work. And it does describe how THC and CBD in combination kills them. What will your maker think of you that you let people die because of your drug phobia? He gonna pat you on the back and say "good boy"? Well of course if you are not a believer no reason not to let them die I suppose.

Sadly for me I am a believer of sorts and feel compelled to do something. It is what you wanted isn't it? People compelled to behave morally because of a belief in a higher power. Well you got it. But I'm sure it is not making you happy.

In any case - a cure for cancer and it doesn't interest you because it is the "wrong" cure. Kinda like having the "wrong" skin color eh? Back where I come from we called that prejudice. And it was frowned upon. Mightily.

You know - if word of this gets out - it will be difficult for Republicans to get a vote for 20 or 40 years. I'm working on it.

As my white former police detective friend, Howard Wooldridge says:

It's because the libertarian drug pushers have become such propagandists, that any mention of THC is an automatic bullshit red flag in my opinion. It is a recognition that once again you will cherry pick the internet for any mention of THC in a positive light, then offer it as an unbiased research discovery.

Your information might EVEN be correct, but you've led us down this primrose path so many times that I for one will not give it the courtesy of consideration because I am not interested in reading agenda driven crap.

Simon, you have become an obsessed religious fanatic, just as objectionable as all those Pat Robertson "You will all Burn in Hell" types. People don't like being evangelized, and you ought to understand this better than anyone.

You know, radiation treatment kills cancer cells as well. And just like pot, it kills the patient too over time.

Stop pretending that pot is not harmful.

Your maker would appreciate that at a minimum. Last I checked he doesn't like liars.

Well lad. Could you post a link of anyone who has died from an overdose of pot in the last 5,000 years? In the US alone about a 1,000 a year die of alcohol overdoses. So I'm sure finding a pot overdose will be easy. It would be headline news.

So we have a non-toxic cure for cancer, which unlike radiation and chemo, has no risk of inducing cancer (ironic that) and because you favor prohibition you are against it. Well I'm glad for you. And all the Republicans like you. Because kids these days have a different attitude and it will destroy your party.

But I can help you. I have a documentary that will get you up to speed Reefer Madness. It is theatrical depiction of all the evils weed causes. Murder, insanity, and death. To be sure. Trouble for you is that, thanks to prohibition, 50% of the youth have had actual experience with the drug (more if you count bystanders) and they aren't buying it.

The prison industrial system is going down. And I'm honored to be a part of that effort. And curing cancer too? Well make my day.

BTW cocaine is in the pharmacopeia as a local anesthetic. Why do you object to cannabis as a non-toxic cancer cure?

And finally my Oh So Constitutionalist friend. Where is the cannabis prohibition amendment? And why aren't you agitating for one?

Giggle.

Simon, there you go misrepresenting again.

Pot kills slowly and you know it. Just like Chemo.

There are plenty of poisons that have limited "local" effects. Just like you pointed out, cocaine. It can be a local anesthetic (due to its toxic properties, like many other poisons), or it can be taken internally in higher concentrations and kill you.

Good stuff.

Love what you are doing, keep it up.

Low but so much for harmless
Food and Drug Administration recorded 279 deaths to which marijuana contributed. 187 of these deaths were listed as being directly related to the use of the cannabis plant itself.
These people may not have died from a marijuana overdose, but if they had not used marijuana, they might still be alive today.
Some doctors have also stated they believe the actual number of marijuana-related deaths is probably much higher because marijuana is often dismissed as a cause of death due to its “harmless” reputation, the appearance of other substances in the deceased’s toxicology reports, or routine omissions in coroners’ reports.

How about a link?

Now assuming you are correct what are the numbers for alcohol?

And then there is this: http://healthland.time.com/2011/12/02/w ... ic-deaths/

And if we could switch people from the more dangerous alcohol? Alcohol is lethal in high doses. It kills brain cells. Pot is not lethal in any dose that could conceivably be consumed. And it grows brain cells.

In any case we are talking about a non-lethal cure for cancer. And I stand by my point - marijuana will not directly kill you. And we have all kinds of "do not operate machinery or drive" medicines. And of course alcohol. What is the big deal about letting people use it to cure cancer?

Politically the tides are turning against you on this one. Why not give it up and focus on killing ObamaCare? Pick your battles. Do not engage if defeat is almost certain. Focus your resources on battles where your odds are better. If I was a political guy that is what I would do. You then get the aura of "winner" which helps in other battles. The moral is to the material as 3 is to 1. Fighting a cancer cure will deny you the moral support you need in other battles.

Fine by me. I have no fundamental objection to the Democrat brand of communism when the alternative is the Republican brand of communism.

FOIA from FDA
you stated no direct deaths from usage. I showed you low but definitive deaths from direct usage.
As for OD does you can OD on water as well so I can not believe that THC has no OD deaths.
We were not comparing fatality just showing it can bet lethal. that was the subject or was until it gets obfuscated by smoke and mirrors.

Uh. If you use pot as medicine it can't kill you. If you use pot as medicine and put yourself in a situation where you need unclouded judgement you did not get killed by the medicine. You got killed by stupidity.

And the same thing happens with alcohol. Only to a greater extent because alcohol makes people over confident. Pot makes you think you are more impaired than you are. Under confident. Under confident is safer.

I think drugs have clouded your judgment. This effect is especially noticeable among the abstinent.

Now your problem is this: pot appears to cure uncurable cancer. Look up "Dennis Hill stage 4 prostrate cancer". Or look up "inoperable brain tumors marijuana". The NIH has hundreds of animal studies that point in the same direction. The word of this is getting out. I'm doing my best to pass it on. What do you think that information will do to the Party of Prohibition's electoral chances? I'm predicting that it will do the same thing as it did to that Party's chances in 1932.

The Republican Party is about to be killed by stupidity because its judgment is clouded by drugs. Ah. Well. The Bible is full of prophets warning people about the error of their ways. Samuel is a favorite of mine. Twas ever thus.

PB from your link. And it is a classic:

http://medicalmarijuana.procon.org/view ... eID=000145
"The information contained in the reports has not been scientifically or otherwise verified. For any given report there is no certainty that the suspected drug caused the reaction. This is because physicians are encouraged to report suspected reactions. The event may have been related to the underlying disease for which the drug was given to concurrent drugs being taken or may have occurred by chance at the same time the suspected drug was taken.
And even with that pot was considered in those 279 cases mentioned only to be a contributing cause.

Now compare that with anti-psychotics.

D. ANTI-PSYCHOTICS
(used to treat psychosis)
Haldol
Lithium
Neurontin

Primary cause of death : 1,593

Contributing cause of death: 702

Total: 2,295

==================

Even questionable statistics do not make your case. Why am I NOT surprised? Because prohibitionists have a habit of grasping for straws. What else do they have?

As I used to like to say: "Marijuana is safer than aspirin" you can look it up.

When Bayer introduced aspirin in 1899, cannabis was America’s number one painkiller. Until marijuana prohibition began in 1937, the US Pharmacopoeia listed cannabis as the primary medicine for over 100 diseases. Cannabis was such an effective analgesic that the American Medical Association (AMA) argued against prohibition on behalf of medical progress. Since the herb is extremely potent and essentially non-toxic, the AMA considered it a potential wonder drug.

Instead, the invention of aspirin gave birth to the modern pharmaceutical industry and Americans switched away from cannabis in the name of “progress.” But was it really progress? There can be no doubt that aspirin has a long history as the drug of choice for the self-treatment of migraines, arthritis, and other chronic pain. It is cheap and effective. But is it as safe as cannabis?

Marijuana versus Aspirin.
