Many humanists were secularists before the 1960s, you know. They just weren't commonly called "secular humanists."
And not all secularists are humanists and, and, and...

My original statement still stands true and unsullied.

And Communists were secular humanists, and secular humanists can't just disavow anything they don't like about what other secular humanists did and then say "See how great secular humanism is!" on that basis.

This statement:
Humanists had the humanity to create a just and caring society. Religions generally gave us atrocities "in God's Name".
doesn't stand up to scrutiny. Secular humanists did just as much harm "in Society's Name" as religions did in God's.

What we can give humanists immense credit for is refining the concepts of personal liberty and constitutional democracy -- and learning from their mistakes.

Secular humanists killed 100 million people in the 20th century. Far more than all religions ever killed.

Pacifism is a shifty doctrine under which a man accepts the benefits of the social group without being willing to pay; and claims a halo for his dishonesty. - Robert Heinlein
In reply to something far up thread.

Way too simplified. The same as saying democrats are invariably scumbags, etc. And I'm no left winger.

The belts of the German Wehrmacht uniforms had "Gott mit uns" (God with us) written on the buckle. Does that mean that all Christians are Nazis?
Would be the same logic.
