Table Top Accelerators

Table top particle accelerators continue to evolve. Accelerating particles to 4 GeV in only 9cm is impressive.

Of course they failed to mention the size of the very powerful laser used. That might add a warehouse sized component to the system. But as this technology and laser technology evolves, useful table top accelerator systems may eventually be achieved. This may even apply to the top tier high energy accelerators of hundreds of GeV capacity or more (perhaps house sized instead of city sized). Table top accelerators of a few hundred MeV capacity may actually be tabletop systems and be very useful for education and industrial uses.

A table top Muon generator coupled with a good muon storage ring might even have uses in fusion research, without having to utilize national lab infrastructure investments.
