Apollo had to be redesigned due to the oxygen problem. Regular teething troubles you get when you let all the old farts go.

I've seen these kinds of CFs before in aerospace. It comes from a combination of inexperienced management and inexperienced engineers.

My guess is some one warned them during development and the mgrs and engrs didn't listen.

That is why I think the private guys are a better shot. That is where all the old guys went.

The company I worked for in aerospace preferred to hire contractors with at least 20 years of experience. Where they went wrong is putting young inside guys in charge. Guys who had no humility in the face of superior experience. You know the deal "I'm young, I'm fresh, I'm smart. Why should I have to listen to a bunch of tired old farts? They should just take orders."

I kinda like Obama's move to boost private companies. I doubt he is doing it for the right reasons (he is too young to know). I still like it.
