The President has a point about how modernized our military has become. We have these thingies now called satellites and computers that let the CiC watch consulates burn down in real time.

Reagan and Bush the Elder both made similar deals with democrats, and both were betrayed. On top of which, top marginal tax rates are well beyond the futility rate.GIThruster wrote:Unlike Republicans, we have no problems with raising taxes on the top couple percent wage earners if that's the compromise it takes to get the Democrats to cut government.

I'm familiar with the standard Republican party line talking points but they are not reason to do what we have been doing, which is nothing. We still have no agreement about a budget and unless both parties are willing to compromise, we are headed off a cliff. We need to raise taxes and cut expenses, including the defense budget. Unless we start with extreme measures and compromise both at once, we will never get what we need for fiscal responsibility.hanelyp wrote:Reagan and Bush the Elder both made similar deals with democrats, and both were betrayed. The TPM (Tea Party Movement) is not a separate movement per se - not anymore, at least. It is a colonizing movement - trying to take over the Republican Party from within, rather than building its own institutional party machinery and forcing the GOP into extinction as happened to the American Whig Party in the 1850s. We will see whether or not it succeeds.GIThruster wrote:Tea Party is for fiscal responsibility. That aligns more closely with the Republicans, but the reason it is a separate movement is the Republicans have sold out on fiscal responsibility long ago. Thus there is a separate movement. There's no need to call anyone "evil". We merely want to see the country begin to act responsibly by balancing the budget and not spending more than it takes in.palladin9479 wrote:Libertarians are against Obama the same way Tea Party crowd is against him, he is a liberal therefor he is evil.
The Republicans have reaped the greatest advantage from the Tea Party mobilizing, but they will be thrown out just as the Dems were on the first sign they betray their responsibilities. Unlike Republicans, we have no problems with raising taxes on the top couple percent wage earners if that's the compromise it takes to get the Democrats to cut government.

I have to disagree. There are plenty in the Tea Party ready and willing to kick the Republicans out of office should they continue to spend. If they deadlock the Congress by refusing to raise taxes on the wealthy they will likewise find themselves out of office.
The Republicans may want to lay claim to the Tea party, but there has never been a refusal to raise taxes there as there is with the Republican party, and if the Republicans fight for no tax increases at the expense of fiscal responsibility, they will find themselves looking for new jobs the same as their Democratic predecessors.
The people of this nation are fed up with the fiscal nonsense In Washington. Enough is enough. 16 TRILLION dollars is more than enough. Much more.

Well since you think the confluence of Polywell research, Occam's Razor, and the fact 2% of UFO sighting aren't explained yet, and that the US Gov says the same thing about UFO's every other gov does--that there's no evidence of aliens--is that there must be aliens flitting around right now; we know you're an idiot.GIThruster wrote:I have to disagree. Of course taxes must not be raised. Why should they be raised?
The fedgov is taking in as big a slice of the GDP as it ever has. The only thing that should be done to the budget is to cut spending. The only thing that should be done with the tax laws is to remove loopholes and flatten the brackets as much as possible.

No we must not compromise with the Democrats, that's what got us where we are now. It doesn't make any difference whether we go off the cliff at 5 mph the way you want, or 95 mph like the Democrats want. It's the crash at the bottom that's the problem.
If we don't do things the right way--which is ignoring the Dems because they haven't had a clue since FDR, and haven't had morals worth much since Jefferson--that crash is inevitable. We do better not to participate in creating it.
If that means two years of deadlock in the event the Dems hold the Senate, then that's what that means. If that precipitates a crash, then that is what happens.
Remember Reagan telling us what happened when he compromised with the Democrats? He signed the tax increase and the spending cuts never happened?
It seems you can't learn from history.
But then we knew you were an idiot.
In the event the tea party infused GOP takes both houses, we need to voucherize Medicare, put SS into private accounts--prorated as such towards 100% for new workers--and get rid of the death tax and corporate taxes, and treat capital gains as any other income, taxing it once.
We need to mandate the EPA take the cost of it's regs into account, and for the FDA to take the deaths it's slowness causes into account, and for people who sign waivers, the FDA should lose it's strangle hold RE prohibiting medicine altogether.
The Too Big To Fail banks need to be let to fail, or be split up.
Since the Dems in the Senate have ignored their duty to participate in the budget process, ignore them for two years, and pass Senate rules which cut them out of the process.
By the end of Romney's first term, the resulting 6% plus growth and below 5% unemployment will look pretty good.

Republicans become corrupt when they live in Washington DC and are surrounded by the Media/Government/Beltway/Social circles. My solution? Term Limits. Keep cycling them in and out before they get too badly contaminated.GIThruster wrote:I have to disagree. And it is primarily the fault of Democrats because they are thieves at heart, and love stealing other people's money, and secondarily the fault of Republicans because they are too chicken-shit to stand up and tell the Democrats NO!GIThruster wrote: The people of this nation are fed up with the fiscal nonsense In Washington. We can always count on Perky to invent a lot of mindless fiction to support his preconceptions.
Like it or not, the only way to compromise is to raise taxes and they have been higher before, especially including all the Clinton years. The country was fine all those years. There are two things that have hurt us. The first is the uncertainty concerning things like health care expenditures and that has to end. Obamacare needs to be repealed.
The second thing is we can't do simple things like pass budgets because the mindless bastards in Washington won't compromise. Despite that raising taxes will have little effect on revenues, they need to be raised in order to compromise with the left and get things done. Mindless warnings about past betrayals etc. are not worth the time to type. Once Perky grows to be an adult he'll no doubt understand the necessity of compromise instead of clinging to the vain idealism that has placed us where we are with $16 Trillion in debt and no budget for 4 years.
